9 Import (Open) Scene from Non-default Directory

Multiple users may be working on some file off a network if Lumion Pro is used (not concurrently though). To illustrate such a scenario I am now going to clear the Default directory of all content once again, run Lumion to generate the benchmark and then import the scene off the network drive (exactly like a first time client would have to do).

The scene previously exported is now imported.

Notice that the model that was originally brought into the Lumion Library (from importing the DAE model) is now once again loaded into the Library.

The conclusion is therefore that Scene files encapsulate the models that are placed in them, and should they be opened by a third party without access to the local default directory model folder, the encapsulated models will be loaded into their own default Lumion library. The exception to this is if an MP4 is added as a clip in Movie mode, in which case that MP4 will not be embedded in the LS5 file. This is because there is there is no limit on the size of the MP4 file and therefore there would not be on the LS5 file either. Please refer to the following post:

When the scene is saved (not exported), then it is once again saved to the local default library.

10 Lumion 5.7 Pro compared to Lumion 5.7 Standard

In some cases, users may have a small solid state hard drive (for speed) and may prefer to work off a server (space constraints). In this case, as long as they are running Lumion Pro, they may safely save their Scenes to a network location and clear their default Lumion directories as the scenes will generate the required content when they are imported. These scenes may then also be accessed on the network by other users of Lumion, but not concurrently.

Lumion Standard does not afford a user the ability to save a scene outside the local default directory.
