Lumion 6.3 Released: Let Your Clients Feel the Space

Representing a huge leap forward in 3D visualization, Lumion 6.3 now allows you to quickly show your clients 3D models from CAD programs like Sketchup and Revit on Oculus Rift and Gear VR.

Lumion is visualisation software for architects. It fits perfectly into your existing workflow and allows you to quickly turn your 3D CAD designs into videos, images and online 360 presentations. You can breathe life into your design by adding environment, materials, lighting, objects, foliage and compelling effects. Lumion is easy to master and easy to use, so creating impressive visualizations is no longer exclusively for 3D experts.

Lumion allows you to spend more time improving your designs and interacting with your clients, and less time preparing and waiting for renders. Seamless interoperability with virtually any CAD package caters for fast design iterations and model changes.

Lumion 6.5 released: Visualisation software made for architects

Lumion 6.5 contains an updated render engine. The engine now works better with Windows 8 and 10. Additionally, Lumion has access to extra graphics card memory in Windows 10 (the previous maximum was 4GB). This extra memory allows for larger scenes. The engine update provides a platform with greater opportunities for future development.

You can now add transparency to trees and plants. This is a great way to prevent foliage from getting in the way of what you are trying to show.
The start screen of Lumion now shows tips, tricks and news items aimed at helping you get better at using Lumion.
Lumion now has a dedicated Panorama mode in addition to the existing Photo and Video modes. In Panorama mode, you can choose to share your panoramas online using MyLumion or you can render a VR output, which can be viewed with a VR headset. Alongside 360 Panoramas for Samsung GearVR and Oculus Rift, it is now also possible to render outputs for other VR devices.
Assigning or changing materials is now more responsive than before. The delay between material assignments has been reduced resulting in a more fluid experience in the material section.
Previously you could duplicate objects by pressing the Alt key while moving objects horizontally. Now you can also duplicate objects by pressing Alt and moving them vertically.
A new property window makes it easier to quickly edit properties of objects. For example you can click a tree and instantly change its transparency.
It is easier to test your computer to find out if the performance is good enough for Lumion and learn how it can be improved.
Lumion has always given you an emotional edge with your clients by breathing life into your designs. Now, with the integration of support for Virtual Reality (VR), Lumion 6.3 allows you to offer a completely immersive experience.
By providing high-quality renderings with stereoscopic output, you’ll give clients the ability to “step through the front door” of their future home or building before construction has even begun. Each 360-degree rendering is viewable on Samsung phones through Gear VR and Oculus Rift* headsets.

With just a few simple clicks, you’ll provide a tangible experience — complete with furniture, landscaping, people, and other detail-oriented objects — that will allow clients to feel their new space before ever stepping a foot inside.

A major step forward in the way architects share video and images with clients, MyLumion was last year’s addition of sharable panoramas. Now, with Lumion 6.3, it’s possible to enhance all panoramic images through the use of new special effects. Add dimension to your high-quality visualizations with effects like improved shadows, atmospheric color filters, and color correction. Instantly share fully-interactive images with clients simply by sending a link to their phone, tablet, or computer.

New Technologies in Lumion 6

The PureGlass® technology gives you access to transparent, translucent or frosted glass that looks more compelling and realistic than ever.

Speedray™ Reflections

Speedray™ Reflections offer the opportunity to massively improve image quality with little extra render time. In Lumion 6 reflective surfaces are automatically improved at the flick of a switch.

Hyperlight® 2

Hyperlight® 2 calculates the light on surfaces more accurately.

The new OmniShadow™ technology enhances small details and makes models feel more solid, through better looking shadows. They provide you with the feeling that an object is grounded and looks in place in the scene.

Materials Improvements

Improved Materials Surfaces

In Lumion, physically based modelling of materials now more accurately simulates the natural roughness present on surfaces.

Wet Asphalt

In Lumion, the addition of a new wet asphalt material makes it incredibly simple to inject this sense of artistic realism into your scene.

Lumion 5.0 was a spectacular update and takes Lumion to another level in maturity and capability. 123 new materials have been added to Lumion 5 and all the materials in the library have undergone a conversion process and are looking better and more realistic than ever before. Lumion 5 revamped the entire materials-interface that reduced the time needed to get your materials looking just how you want them. This interface followed Lumion’s PureGlass® user interface approach designeded to make complicated technology easy to use.

Render time is crucially important in the visualisation workflow. Due to detailed improvements in the rendering engine, Lumion 5 renders even faster than before. Tests have delivered render time reductions of typically 20% to 90% for images and animations of the same quality on the same hardware. This is quite staggering, considering that Lumion was already the fastest architectural rendering option available anywhere.

Lumion’s high-quality native shrubs, plants and trees from around the world make it an even more global product through its increased local relevance. Artistic effects have been added to the range of effects – including oil- painting, pastel sketch, analogue colour lab, blueprint and material highlight effect. The Mass Placement feature allows you to build huge scenes even faster. Just draw a line and the objects you select will be placed along it. You can also spread them out at arbitrary distances apart, rotate them randomly, mix the object selections and change the number of objects placed. Mass Placement can be used for all objects. The Mass Move effect enables you to efficiently animate large numbers of objects. Simply draw a line in your scene and watch the objects close to that line move at the speed and in the direction you define. This effect combined with the new Mass Placement now make it fast and easy to create multi-lane traffic moving along a wide road at different speeds or have a crowd of people walking along a street.

Video and image output – architectural visualization in HD

Lumion renders stunning images in seconds rather than hours.
Create high quality HD videos in hours rather than weeks. The built-in video editor in Lumion makes great film directors out of anyone.

Lumion turns a few snapshots into professional-looking camera motions.
